Update Soreno
How Soreno spots a new version, installs it when you click, and where to see the installed version and what’s new.
When Soreno checks
Soreno looks for a new version at launch, then once an hour, by reading the latest.json file of the releases published on GitHub. If the computer was asleep, it checks as soon as you come back to the window.
Nothing shows while there is no new version, nor when a check fails, offline for instance: the next one tries again.
Install the new version
When a version is available, a button appears in the status bar at the bottom of the window: Update to 1.4.0, for instance. Nothing is downloaded before you click.
- Soreno downloads the update and shows its progress: “Downloading… 42%”;
- it saves your notes, installs the update and restarts: “Installing the update…”.
If a note can’t be saved, Soreno doesn’t restart: the button becomes Install and restart. Let the save finish, then click it.
If something fails, a notification says so: “The app update failed.” Retry starts again; dismissing the notification brings the update button back.
Depending on your system
- macOS and Windows: the update downloads and installs from Soreno;
- Linux, AppImage: the AppImage updates itself;
- Linux,
.debpackage: Soreno doesn’t offer updates, install the next version’s package.
See the version and what’s new
The installed version, v1.4.0 for instance, sits on the right of the status bar. Click it to read what’s new in that version.
On the first launch after an update, what’s new opens by itself, including the versions you may have skipped. Close puts it away until the next version.
Update Codex
Soreno’s AI features, such as commit messages, run on Codex. In Settings, under AI, Soreno shows the version of Codex installed on this computer and checks for a newer one: Up to date, or an Update to button followed by the version number.
Wait for the current Codex generation to finish before updating. If Codex was installed in a way Soreno can’t update, use its original manager, then reopen these settings.
